Immediate thoughts on initial kite rig setup:
- - 446 g without camera (vers.1) is too heavy.
- - Missing drill bits is stressful, drilling holes will reduce weight.
- - Need to figure out a way to place camera in place without adding too much weight.
- - Joining wood without a chisel, all I can do is glue them on top of each other.
With the holes drilled, I tied the strings up today to test the balancing of the rig. Turns out the strings were rather thin, and I had serious doubts whether it could hold up the weight and the sway of the rig with the camera. I decided to buy a thicker string.
I am now wondering if this will ever fly, and if so where can I fly it. Good news, I can fly it from our roof. The wind is good enough, problem will be when is a good time to fly it.
Thicker strings has arrived, wound up and everything weighs 383g.
- - Looking at potential places for flying the kite (not rooftop anymore), the windiest place available could be Stratford or Walthamstow wetlands. If it’s not now maybe on 25th 1400+ today I will just fly a kite normally.
- - Kite did not fly. Best bet 1400~1900+ at Stratford.
- - choose a place 1/4 ~ 1/2 mile of clear land (400~800m).
Stef helped me hold up the kite, but I think if I were to fly it in a windier location I wouldn’t need his height for the kite to catch some wind. In addition, I will also need to look for a location that is 800m of clear land.
